NKBA Kitchen and Bathroom Design Courses Details

It is a goal of the NKBA to lead and maintain an educated workforce resulting in a higher level of professionalism in the kitchen and bathroom industry of New Zealand.

NKBA offers the following Bathroom Design Course:

Bathroom Specialist.
Spread over five days, this course offers in-depth training for bathroom consultants who have some experience in the industry. It covers topics such as fixtures and fittings, house construction, plumbing, electrical and ventilation issues, ergonomics and layout, safety and regulations, interviewing the client, room measurement, scale drawings (floor plans, elevations and mechanical) and design statements.

The fees are $1250.00 (incl gst) for NKBA members and $1375.00(inc gst) for non members.

NKBA in conjunction with JITO (Joinery Industry Training Organisation) offer the following National Certificate Kitchen Design courses:

National Certificate in Design (Kitchen) Level 2
This is a three-day course and is ideal for those starting out in the kitchen industry. It introduces kitchen cabinet material, construction and installation, other surface materials, appliances, the design process, basic planning, ergonomics and plan drawing.
It also covers communication and health and safety in the workplace.
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Total fees are $1018.65 (incl gst)

National Certificate in Design (Kitchen) Level 3
This intensive 5 day course covers house construction, electrical, plumbing and heating requirements, detailed planning and ergonomics, safety and regulations, materials, appliances, cabinet construction and installation, essential lighting, generic design knowledge, the design process and plan drawing. It has two unit standards about workplace communication and health and safety that are covered by distance learning. It is a practical course with lots of student participation.
By signing up with JITO as a trainee students are able to take advantage of subsidies offered by the government. The only prerequisite is that they are employed in the industry and have some experience.
Total fees are $1051.71 (incl gst)

National Certificate in Design (Kitchen) Level 4
This course covers the visual aspects of design and runs over 5 days. Topics include colour and colour schemes, history of design, design styles around the world, elements and principles of design, lighting, drawing and plan requirements as well as some business skills.
Students who attend this course must have already achieved the National Certificate in Design (Kitchen) L3 and be employed in the industry. This course is also subsidised.
Total fees are $1084.75 (incl gst)
