NKBA DRAWING STANDARDS – KITCHEN DESIGN – updated Nov 09
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
A3 paper used
Border (line) drawn around the edge of the page
Witness lines or arrows on measurements
Drawing centred approximately on page (looks good)
No ball point pen (pencil or inked)
Lettering and numeral easy to read
Numeral in two directions (horizontal and read from right)
Lettering in two directions (horizontal and read from right)
Scale given (usually 1:20 or 1:25)
Design Consultant’s name on each page
Client’s name, address and phone on each page
Number each sheet for the job (ie 1of 5, 2 of 5 etc.)
Any details/cross sections required usually 1:10
FLOOR PLAN
Site walls shown clearly- 2 parallel lines that can be inked in
Walls removed shown correctly (Dash - longer than for hidden detail)
Label new walls
Adjacent rooms labelled
House doors – show thickness of door
- show opening method – slide – length of door within wall cavity
- swing - door 90o curved dash line for door swing
Windows shown clearly and correctly including architraves if applicable
Dash line for cabinets under benches
Dash line for hidden objects – eg cabinet/ cooktop hidden by rangehood
Dimensions shown outside plan if possible
Measurements in correct order – base, tall/wall, site breakdown (doors/windows), overall
No centrelines required on floor plan
Dimensions tally overall units shown
Arrows with letter to show and coincide with elevations in a logical order
Scale (usually 1:20 or 1:25)
Show section line where cabinetry has been bisected
Tolerance allowed when fitting between two walls

Total for all three legs less than or equal to 7900mm (noted on floor plan)
Triangle not interrupted by island unit (or not more than 300mm)
