NKBA 2014 - Conference Day One
NKBA 2014 Conference - 1st & 2nd August 2014
Thank you to everyone that joined us at conference in Tauranga and made it the success it was. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did organising it for you. Thank you to those that have completed the online Post conference survey that was emailed out, it is great to get the feedback from you all.

This year Katie from Lightbox Creative joined us to document conference and awards and we have a wonderful catalogue of photos that will be available to view on our website under the conference page – you will be prompted to logon to your account to view these. We have done this to ensure only members can view these photos –

We also videoed the speakers and will have these available to you as soon as possible on the above link.
Congratulations to all of our award winners, especially to Melanie Craig of Melanie Craig Design, Southern Chapter for Kitchen Design Of The Year and Kira Gray of Fyfe Kitchens, Auckland Chapter for Bathroom Design of the Year.

We wish to thank our sponsors for supporting our awards and conference especially Fisher and Paykel as our Platinum sponsor, Kitchen Things and SMEG for bringing Peter Maddison and Laminex NZ for bringing Renee Hytry-Derrington to New Zealand as our keynote speakers.
The Farmers Kitchen provided by Hafele was sold for $16320.25 via TradeMe Auction that closed during conference and all proceeds going to Diabetes Youth Tauranga. This was an exciting time watching the bidding war climb for quite a few minutes before finally closing to a round of applause. Thanks to Greg, Duane, Vekart, Rick and Mark for all your help in making this happen.

Also thank you for our presenters, Jamie Bertelsen from Kitchen King/Hideaway Bins, David Sharp from BRANZ, Rodney Fong from Ray White Tauranga and our lovely talented Ingrid Geldof (AKA Ellen DeGeneres!) and her panel of designers, Celia Visser, Natalie Du Bois and Morgan Cronin.

Finally but certainly not least is a big thank you to our outgoing and incoming Chapter Chairs and Committees for your continual dedicated work. This is truly valued and supports our members as well as Teresa and I, we couldn’t do it without you.

We welcome Valda Fewen of Kitchens Queenstown on the Executive Board as profiled below.

Hettich’s ArciTech Drawer Gets Colourful
Following the successful release of Hettich’s premium drawer ArciTech – the range has now been expanded to include two exciting new colours - silver and anthracite.

The ArciTech drawer was originally released in New Zealand last year in white and has proven to be an absolute winner for Hettich.

Before releasing the ArciTech drawer system, Hettich put a lot of effort and research into where kitchens were headed in the future. Drawers have increased in popularity substantially over hinged doors and are now wider and/or taller and hold more weight. To accommodate this, Hettich introduced the Actro runner for the ArciTech drawer that holds weights of 40, 60 and 80kg with a luxurious smooth running action.
24 This also opens exciting design possibilities of what can be used for drawer fronts such as natural timbers or alternatively applying different surfaces to your drawer front of tiles, glass or stone to create that extra special touch.

For higher pot and pan drawers there are design options for your sides of classic rails, steel TopSide for the complete closed-in look, or the ever popular glass DesignSide.

All of these are now available in white, silver and anthracite.

  1 look 4 ways…
Many a client has agonised over colour charts, tried out some testpots and are still stuck as to which colours to choose.

Habitat plus is a taste of Habitat in between the normal magazine issues and is designed to focus on one element of decorating inspiration.

New Habitat plus – 1 look 4 ways for interiors shows how different styles of interiors look in various colour schemes. We’ve taken an existing room, then virtually painted it with alternative schemes to show you the difference that paint colours can make. There’s a good mix of contemporary and traditional schemes… as well as some more challenging combinations. It’s the ideal way to see how you can change a space through colour choices and help your clients narrow down the look that’s right for them.

So before your clients give up in frustration, give them a free copy of Habitat Plus – 1 look 4 ways for interiors to help them see how colour can transform their home.

Copies of the new Resene Habitat Plus are available free at Resene ColorShops and resellers or view online at

NKBA 2014 - Conference Day Two
  Kitchens Queenstown
October 2010 I made the decision to come home to New Zealand after 23 years working in Switzerland, Dubai, Honk Kong and Brisbane.

I chose Queenstown to setup the business for several reasons – both business and family. The Queenstown lakes district population and dynamics has changed dramatically since leaving the south island in 1987. Once being the tourist destination for the rich it is now one of the largest population growth areas in the country. A greater demand for product and services for the average kiwi family.

So in Dec 2010 we opened the doors to the showroom located at Terrace Junction on Frankton Road. We have an exciting variety of new build, major renovation and simple replacement kitchens we cater for all budgets.

The service we offer is an obligation design and pricing service giving client product information and choices. Over the first appointment we work through the requirements of the client, such as Budget, cooking habits, family life style, design of home and furnishings, the location and function of the kitchen space, natural light and in Queenstown outlook are also very important.
We also take note of the wish list - the aspects that the client would like but not sure if the will fit into the budget of layout.

Style and inspiration and trend can be influenced by the colour in our surroundings, client are more and more aware of their preferred style with the availability of thousands if images posted on web sites. Getting the balance correct is the key – client’s needs, design, colour and Budget. Just as important is the quality of the production and installation. We have a great team. Avoiding any installation issues makes for very happy clients.

The most satisfying aspect of the kitchen design and manufacturing business is to walk into the clients home sit down with a glass of wine and hear them tell you how wonderful the experience has been, how they love the way it all works and how they love the finishes.

We live in a community and feel we are part of the community.
